Futsal crown for Ridgeway Raiders

RIDGEWAY Raiders have been crowned county Futsal champions.

The under-10s, of Southside Angels Girls FC, travelled to Canford School in Wimborne for the County Championships and returned home triumphant.

The girls produced some great football and it was they who came out on top in the final – a three-match series with Sturminster Newton.

Team manager Marc Day was delighted with their performance.

He said: “It was a fantastic day for all involved and I would encourage more clubs to take up Futsal.

“It involves quick passing in tight areas but also gives players the chance to use their individual skills to create goalscoring opportunities. It’s fast, it’s furious and it’s great fun.

“It was also great to see the smile on the girls’ faces at the end of the day. They worked hard, played some electric football at times and ultimately got a well-deserved winner’s medal.”

Southside Angels Girls FC are one of only a few clubs in the county to embrace this new form of football and are looking for players to join the club.

Any girl in school years three to seven is welcome to attend.

The Angels are also looking to develop players for two new teams next season – under-9s and under-10s.
