Azerbaijan’s futsal team loses to Spain

by Elmir Aliyev

Mon 28 February 2011

The teams from Azerbaijan and Spain met in the match for the first place. Both teams ensured their trip to the final stage of Euro-2012, since even if they took the second place, they would be among five teams with the best indicators. For this reason, it was important for both teams to go forth from the first position. In the result Spain won 8:3.

The current champion of Europe, Spain, seized the initiative from the first minutes. The score was opened on the 6th minute, when our futsallers missed the pass from the corner and Julio Cordeiro scored a goal. The second goal came soon. On the 8th minute Jose Ruiz scored the second goal.

The Azerbaijani team responded with rare counterattacks but in the game our players-especially Serjao and Biro Jade- were inaccurate. This continued until the 14th minute when Serjao was led to the Spanish goals and the Brazilian with the Azerbaijani passport made the score 2:1.

Our team began the attack but again did not use their moments. For this, the Spaniards punished Jose Alecio’s team on the 16th minute. Jose Ruiz excelled again. Before the interval the teams again exchanged goals: to the goal from Serjao on the 19th minute the Spaniards responded with the goal from Anjel Velasco Liin-4:2.

The Spanish team was more active in the second time. Goals after goals were scored to our team. Fernandao Maciel (23rd minute), Hordi Torras (27th minute) and Borha Blanco (30th minute) brought the goal to 7:2.

Jose Alecio de Silva replaced the goalkeeper for the fifth player, Biro Jade. On the 33rd minute, Felipe scored a goal from a far distance.

Our team continued to risk playing without a goalkeeper. On the 36th minute Adrian Alonso Paul punished the Azerbaijani team for the loss and sent the ball to the goals, making the score 8:3.

Thus, the Azerbaijani team took the second place in the group and it will take part in Euro-2012, as one of the teams, which has one of the five best indicators among those who take the second place.

In another match of the third round in our group Kazakhstan beat France 2:0.

Standings:

Spain – 9 points, gap 17-3 (played 3)
Azerbaijan – 6, 13-13 (3)
Kazakhstan – 3, 5-11 (3)
France – 0, 2-10 (3)
