All the states to host futsal carnival

KUALA LUMPUR: The sixth edition of the Milo Hidup Bola Futsal Carnival is expected to be a bigger event than the previous years with one round to be staged in all the states.

As the event takes on a national look, the organisers are hoping to see more than 1,400 teams taking part this year.

The event has two age groups of competitions – Under-12 and Under-16. There will be 14 rounds in the initial stage with the kick off scheduled for March 5 in Kuala Lumpur. The Grand Finals will be held on July 20 at the Sports Planet in Ampang.

The executive director for Nestle’s business unit, Don Howard, said yesterday that the event was started five years ago on a small scale but has taken on a national image.

“We are proud to continue with this event and hopefully there will be a bigger turnout this time,” he said.

“We had almost 1,400 teams in both categories last year. We will continue to give prize money but this time, we also ensure that it is through a savings book given directly to the players.”

The event was launched yesterday by former national footballer Serbegeth Singh at the OCM Arena.

The team winning the Grand Finals featuring 32 teams will receive RM15,000 while the runners-up will pick up RM10,000. The two losing semi-finalists will take away RM7,000.

Howard added that the state winners would also receive cash prizes. The event is supported by the Sports Ministry’s Rakan Muda programme and sanctioned by the national schools sports council (MSSM).
