Nestle futsal tournament kicks off

by Veronica Foon

NESTLE (Malaysia) Bhd will kick off its 14-leg nationwide annual futsal tournament called "MILO Hidup Bola Junior Futsal Carnival 2011" tomorrow, which will culminate with the grand finals on July 24.

Malaysia’s former national footballer and football commentator Serbegeth Singh, better known as Shebby, officiated at the launching of the carnival last Sunday.

Returning for the sixth year, the tournament continues to heighten sportsmanship among young players below 16 years of age following its success over the past five years.

"Last year, the tournament received participation from some 1,400 teams for the under-12 and under-16 categories.

"This event has now grown to become the biggest junior futsal carnival in the country," said Nestle Products Sdn Bhd executive director (coffee and beverages business unit), Don Howard.

The best 32 teams in the under-12 and the under-16 categories will qualify for the grand finals to be held at the Sports Planet Ampang.

Cash prizes of up to RM15,000 in the form of savings accounts would be given to each winning participant in the grand final to inculcate the good habit of saving for a better future, said Howard.
