Nowra team wins futsal crown in Castle Hill

SOME of NSW’s best futsal teams headed for Castle Hill on February 27 to compete in the Unity Cup 2011 futsal tournament.

Playing at Hills Basketball Stadium the Shahab team from Nowra successfully defended the Cup with a 5-0 win over Oghab in the final. Shahab scored their first goal early in the first half and dominated the rest of the game.

Shahab won 5-3 when the two teams met in the preliminary round earlier in the day.

This year’s Unity Cup had 14 teams from Sydney metro, northern and southern NSW, including three teams from the Hills district. They played in two groups of seven with the top two teams from each group qualifying for the finals.

The Unity Cup is a one-day futsal tournament into its ninth year and is open to players 15 years and over.
