People's Daily On LineColombia to host World's Futsal TournamentMarch 11, 2011World's Futsal Tournament was annunced on Wednesday night to be hosted in Colombia from March 15 to 26.The announcement was done with the presence of the Colombian team.
The Emerald Hall at Hotel Tequendama, the Colombian Futsal Federation, the Mayoralty and the District Institute of Recreation and Sport (IDRD) attended the ceremony, where it was stressed the work done by the current government in favor of sport.
"We believe in organized sports, stretching the budget and trusting our young people. With President Juan Manuel Santos, we are heavily investing in the 'Superate' program in order to make our young people able to project themselves into tomorrow," said Jairo Clopatofky, director of Coldeportes.
During the event was presented "Micro", a monkey who was chosen as the official mascot of the tournament which this year will have the participation of teams from Ecuador, Venezuela, Brazil, Canada, Australia and Czech Republic among others.
Other teams participating at the athletic meeting are representing Belarus, Mexico, Argentina, Uruguay, South Ossetia, Peru, Russia, Catalonia and Paraguay.
Baltazar Medina, President of the Colombian Olympic Committee expressed confidence in the sport as a tool to combat violence in the country and a path to show a friendly face of Colombia at the international community.
"Events like this 10th World's Futsal Tournament, are the great contributions made by the sport for peace and is the best way, through sport, as we have placed the good name of the country at international level," Medina said.
In addition, the Colombian Federation of Futsal presented the trophy designed in honor of Jaime Arroyave, manager of the Futsal in Colombia and Vice-President of the AMF (World's Futsal Association).
