Trinidad & Tobago's NewsdayWomen’s futsal at TacariguaSunday, March 13 2011THE SPORT event management organisation, SW Touring, will host the SW Futsal Invitational- The Female Edition, on April 9 at the Eastern Regional Sports Arena, Tacarigua.
The venue has been labelled as the “Futsal Nation” for the day-long event, which will begin at 9 am and run until 7 pm.
Spectators will be treated to tenhours of entertaining five-a-side football, where they will witness “The Futsal Nation Experience” as 16 teams, comprising the best of the nation’s female footballers (in all age groups), will showcase their skill in the “smaller version of the game”.
A “winner-takes-all” jackpot of $4,000 is at stake for the victorious club, as well as $1,000 worth in prizes, the SW Futsal Invitational Female Challenge Trophy and medals.
There will be other prizes on offer, including the Runners-up, Most Valuable Player, Golden Boot and Golden Gloves. Among the tournament attractions are the SW All Star Exhibition Match, Freestyle Ball Juggling, Shootout and Obstacle Competitions.
“This competition is the continuation of our Futsal information and sensitising campaign through the encouragement of female team participation in the tournament,” said Geoffrey Edwards, the tournament’s event manager. “We also see this as an opportunity to bridge the social and sporting gap with the ultimate aim of improving women’s standing in our society.”
The dynamic fusion of sports and entertainment - which SW Touring events are known for - will be evident as the venue was transformed into the “Futsal Nation” with live entertainment, a food area, well stocked non-alcoholic bar and many more attractions. Teams of ten players (maximum) will have to dish out $700 to register, with the deadline set for March 30.
