Camden Haven CourierRotary sports teams of the year30 Mar, 2011THE annual Hastings Sports Awards were held recently to recognise the sporting achievements and excellence of members in the Hastings area. Camden Haven High School and Westport High School featured prominently in these awards by winning the Sports Team of the Year category. Both schools shared in this prestigious award which recognised the achievements of their students in the fast growing sport of futsal. The Westport Open girl’s team won the Australasian Futsal title for the second consecutive year whilst the Camden Haven Open boy’s team were also crowned Australasian Champions in their first foray into this competition.
Nik Sandeman-Allen, president of Rotary, commented it was extremely difficult to select a winner this year as there were so many teams which had achieved notable success.”
Both futsal teams were honoured to be presented with such recognition for their outstanding achievements particularly with the quality of the other teams vying for this award. T he Camden Haven Open boy’s team also won the Hastings Council Australia Day Sports Team of the Year Award which further celebrated their remarkable year in sport. Many of these team members have now matriculated and are pursuing future opportunities in this game.
