In all, 15 teams will participate in the tournament organised to establish a Sportsman Welfare Fund for under-privileged and ailing players, informed the organisers at a press meet here today.
“Boosting our relationships with the corporate houses, we will establish a fund which will aid the under-privileged and ailing players,” said Kripa Sharma, Director of the foundation.
“After remaining passive for a long time, we are organising this event to revive the foundation,” said Kripa, the daughter of FIFA Referee and national football team skipper Rupak Raj Sharma, who died in PIA air crash in 1992.
“This is just a beginning, we are looking forward to make it a big event as the year progresses. Soon after this event, we will organise an Inter-school tournament,” added Kripa. She further informed the foundation will conduct at least four events — inter-school, women, national and corporate — from next year.
The participating teams are divided into four groups with top two finishers making it to the quarter-finals after the completion of league round matches. The Himalayan Times have been drawn in Group ‘C’ along with International Money Express (IME), Global Bank and Bank of Asia.
Group ‘A’ features Image Channel, G-five Mobile, Surya Nepal and Manakamana Development Bank, while International Leasing and Finance Company Ltd, Civil Bank, Norling Restaurant and Himalayan Bank make Group ‘B’. Ncell, Nepal Industrial and Commercial Bank and Chaudhary Group are in Group ‘D’.
