Trinidad & Tobago's NewsdayWomen’s futsal at TacariguaSaturday, April 2 2011A WINNER takes all jackpot of $4,000 is on offer as the SW Touring group stages its SW Futsal Invitational — the Female Edition on April 9 at the Eastern Regional Sporting Arena, Tacarigua.
The five-a-side day-long event will take place from 9 am until 7 pm, and will comprise 16 teams of some of Trinidad and Tobago’s best female footballers.
The winner will also be guaranteed $1,000 worth of prizes, the SW Futsal Invitational Female Challenge Trophy and medals, while there will also be awards for the tournament’s runners-up, the Most Valuable Player, the Golden Boot (leading goalscorer) and the Golden Gloves (the best goalkeeper).
Water One Real Dimension defeated Trincity Nationals 3-1 to win the previous competition, which took place on December 11.
Both teams are expected to feature in the forthcoming tournament, which will also see a few events — the SW All Star Exhibition Match, Freestyle Ball Juggling, Shootout and Obstacle competitions.
According to the tournament’s event manager Geoffrey Edwards, “This competition is the continuation of our Futsal information and sensitising campaign through the encouragement of female team participation in the tournament.
“We also see this as an opportunity to bridge the social and sporting gap with the ultimate aim of improving women’s standing in our society.”
The cost of registering a team (with no more than ten players, of any age) is $700.
There will also be live entertainment, food and a non-alcoholic bar at the venue.
