English Futsal: Sheffield FC press release

Sheffield FC Futsal
Sheffield FC Futsal 9 Liverpool Futsal Club 2

Sheffield FC Futsal recorded a comprehensive victory on Sunday with a
9-2 victory against Liverpool to keep their title hopes alive. The game was held at Greenbank Sports Centre in Liverpool, the same ground where Sheffield’s game against Tranmere was cancelled two weeks ago at the last minute.

Sheffield were therefore in no mood to make this visit to Greenbank a wasted journey especially as 3 points were a necessity to keep the pressure on rivals Manchester.

The game was closely fought in the first 5 minutes with both teams creating chances and forcing saves from their opposition goalkeeper. Richard Ward opened the deadlock for Sheffield in the 4th minute from close range but the away team were unable to capitalise on their ascendency. Liverpool equalised in the 6th minute through Beko Dushku who slotted past England international Curtis Holmes. Both teams had periods of possession without creating too many chances. Then in the 8th minute Sheffield FC Futsal upped the tempo and began to open up the opposition defence at will.

Firstly, Ryon Leyshon put Sheffield into the lead at 2-1 and then Adam Oldham scored a wonder goal smashing the ball into the top corner with a lofted left foot finish to make the score 3-1. Further goals from Ryon Leyshon, Mark England-Woodcock and a free kick from Will Christophers made the score 6-2 at half time.

In the second half Liverpool rallied, creating various chances, but were denied by some fantastic saves from Curtis Holmes. Sheffield was able to suck Liverpool in and hit them on the counter attack but, like Liverpool, they were denied by the opposition goalkeeper.

Sheffield did though manage to extend their lead as Eamon Chapman danced through the Liverpool defence shooting low into the bottom corner. Further goals from Simon Tyndel at close range and Ryon Leyshon, who ran the Liverpool defence ragged with his dazzling runs, deserved his hat trick. An own goal by Adam Oldham gave Liverpool a consolation goal to leave the final score at 9-2.

Sheffield FC Futsal now face title rivals Manchester at Hillsborough Leisure Centre next Sunday (3rd April), 11.30am kick off at Hillsborough Leisure Centre. With only 4 games left and one point separating 1st placed Manchester (19 points) and 2nd placed Sheffield
(18 points) this will arguably be a title deciding game. Tickets are available on the door and are priced at £2 for adults and free for under 16’s.
