Katherine RufenerThe men's soccer team at Bethel College is going for it, trying to break the Guinness World Record for non-stop playing of futsal.
The team is planning on playing non-stop for 35 hours, as the previous world record sits at 32 hours and 20 minutes.
Futsal is an international form of indoor soccer played on a basketball sized court.
In February, the Bethel team went to Cincinnati for the United States Futsal Federation's Midwest Regional Championship where they went undefeated and brought home the trophy.
Gearing up and playing for 35 hours is something the team did not prepare for overnight.
"We got a lot of fit guys on the team," said Bethel futsal player Ryan Needs. "So we've been preparing our bodies all week. Eating well, sleeping well, hydrating all week. So I think we're well prepared."
The team was still going strong at 5 a.m. Monday during 16 Morning News. Some fans had been there since they began playing at noon on Sunday. Players are rotating every few hours, allowing time to eat and sleep.
Fans are encouraged to show up to the Bethel gym on Monday to watch them play all day and especially from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. when they plan on smashing the current world record.
