Middlesbrough Futsal Club
BORO TO BREAK WORLD RECORD

Middlesbrough Futsal Club will attempt to break the Guinness World Records™ record for the Longest Ever Futsal Match this summer.

The marathon futsal match, set to be played at Catterick Leisure Centre, will kick off on Friday 1st July at 10am and the Boro boys will attempt to go the distance, with the record set to be broken at 9pm on Saturday 2nd July.

Currently, the world record stands at 32 hours and 20 minutes, set in Brazil, but a 35 hour attempt is taking place in the USA in April. This means Middlesbrough will be aiming for at least 36 hours, but will continue to play as long as possible to smash the record!

Plans for the attempt began over a year ago, with the initial date set for October. However it was decided to postpone the attempt in order to gather more support, and Chairman of Middlesbrough Damon Shaw is gearing up for a busy few months of promotion ahead.

“The conditions are perfect for the event to be a success this summer.” Shaw explained. “Catterick Leisure Centre is an ideal venue for such an event in the middle of a strong community.

“We are now looking for players, volunteers and sponsors to help us break the World Record.”

Up to 15 players are needed to join the Middlesbrough Futsal Club squad in the record attempt.. Anybody aged over 16 can play and participants will be asked to raise some money for the club and their official charity TFM radio’s Cash for Kids.

Participants will join Middlesbrough players to make two mixed squads of 15 players each and will be provided with a kit.

Not only is it a chance to be in the record books, but also a chance to play alongside England internationals! But be quick, there aren’t many spaces available!

Volunteers are also required to act as witnesses, and for scorekeeping (it could get quite high!) and making sure the event runs smoothly.

Anybody wanting to get involved should contact the club on info@borofutsal.co.uk or call Damon Shaw on 07807 146 319.

Any businesses interested in sponsoring the event or being involved are also being urged to get in touch.
