Bethel College team breaks record for the longest game of futsal

All 24 players on Bethel College's soccer team can take a break after breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest game of futsal, which is a form of indoor soccer that the guys use to train in the winter.

The record was last set a few years ago in Brazil: a game of 32 hours and 20 minutes.

At 8:21 p.m. Monday, that previous record was reached. The Bethel team, working in the Wiekamp Athletic Center on campus, planned to continue until the 35-hour mark at 11 p.m.

Bethel Men's Soccer Team Breaks Guinness World Record - Plays Futsal for 35 Hours

The Bethel College men’s soccer team broke the Guinness™ World Record for the longest futsal game in the world Monday night, April 11 in Gates Gymnasium located on Bethel’s campus.

The team started playing at noon on Sunday, April 10. On Monday, April 11 at 8:21 p.m. the team surpassed the record of 32 hours and 20 minutes. They continued playing until 11 p.m., setting the new record at 35 hours for the longest futsal match ever played.

“The purpose of the event was to raise money for a mission trip to Brazil this summer, and to continue to fulfill the mission of the soccer team, which is to glorify God through excellence in how we play, serve and celebrate,” says Head Coach of the Bethel Men’s Soccer Team, Thiago Pinto.

Pinto will send an evidence package as requested by Guinness to their London office. According to Guinness it will take about six weeks to verify the achievement, hopefully making the Bethel College Men’s Soccer Team official record breakers of the world’s longest futsal match.

Futsal is form of indoor soccer that is played in more than 100 countries around the world and is played on a basketball-sized court. It is played with a special “low-bounce” ball, which requires each player to use more skills and quicker reflexes.
