HA NOI – National futsal (indoor football) champions Thai Son Bac have been invited to take part in the qualifying round of the Tiger Street Football tournament in Singapore from April 16-17.

The 5-a-side knock-out competition will promote a shorter, high-energy game of two 6-minute halves with a 2-minute halftime period.

Set to take place within the specially constructed Tiger Football Stadium in Ngee Ann City, the competition is aimed at elevating the level of play and passion for football on the streets of Singapore, as well as in China, Malaysia, Thailand and Viet Nam – countries that will host subsequent legs of the competition this year.

The tournament will feature 32 local teams battling it out for cash prizes, along with a supply of Tiger Beer.

The winning team will automatically qualify for the finals to be held in Kuala Lumpur in September. In addition, the top two local teams from Saturday's competition will get the opportunity to play against international teams for a chance to win additional cash prizes.

The winners of the tournament which will be aired live in 24 Asian countries will pocket US$74,000.

After Singapore, the tournament which is organised for players aged between 18 to 34 years old, will move to Bangkok in May, Guangzhou in July and HCM City in August.

Viet Nam's Thai Son Bac were formed in July 2007 after futsal started becoming popular in the country.

Four of Thai Son Bac's players represent the national side and in the domestic league, they ranked third in 2008, fourth in 2009 and in 2010 clinched the top prize.
