South African Futsal National take on Mozambique in an international friendly'

The Futsal National team will be taking on Mozambique in two international friendly matches on Thursday (14 April 2011) and Friday (15 April 2011) at the Old Mutual Indoor centre located at the Wits University campus in Johannesburg.

The two matches against Mozambique will be used to expose the players to international futsal, and to find the best combination of players since the selection trails that were held in January 2011 in Stellenbosch.

The Futsal camp and the International friendlies will be used to prepare the National team for the CAF Futsal Championship qualifiers later this year.

The players that make up the National squad were selected during the Inter-provincial Futsal tournament held in September last year at the Orlando Communal hall in Johannesburg.

Interim coach of the Futsal National team, Quinton Allies feels the team is in high spirits ahead of the international friendlies against neighbours Mozambique.

“The team has been showing a lot of good hype and team spirit ahead of the friendlies against Mozambique. The Mozambique National team will give us a good test as they are well experienced in Futsal. We have been using the training camps to get the teams fitness levels aligned to the fast pace game Futsal is known to be. We are now using the last part of training to work on the tactical techniques.”

The South Africans last played their Mozambiquean counter-parts in 2008.

“The team is showing a lot of confidence ahead of the two international friendlies. We have six players on the squad who played against Mozambique in 2008, I am relying on their international experience to see us perform well as well as see this experience passed down to the new players;” added Allies.

Kick-off time for the first match, on Thursday (14 April 2011) will be at 19h00. The second match on Friday (15 April 2011) will kick-off at 17h00.

The friendly will also be used to prepare the team for the Futsal World Cup next year.

The Team:
Goalkeepers: Anthony Jacobs, Andre Cloete
Defenders: Charlton Stevens, Dumisane Ntsondo, Gift Mashaba, Andile Sibiso
Mid-fielders: Chistopher Njokwana, Ishmail Motumi, Kgotso Chabeli, Christaan Gaudel, Taliep Majedi
Strikers: Thurston Johnson, Desmond Pillay
