City jail football club hosts 1st Futsal Friendship Game

The Zamboanga City Jail Football Club hosted the 1st Futsal Friendship Game held inside the Zamboanga City Jail last Saturday evening.

Three teams, composed of Chico Foot Ball Club Senior, Chico Foot Ball Club Masters, and the Mormon Foot Ball Club participated the game.

The inmates numbering about 1,000 witnessed and enjoyed the game, said Zamboanga City Jail Operations Chief, Jail Inspector Belsie Agustin.

Players of the Chico Foot Ball Club Senior were signed at below 30 years old while the Masters were signed at above 30 years old.

Futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller playing surface and mainly played indoors.

The three foot ball club teams played inside a basketball court of the city jail. And the Chico Foot Ball Club Senior emerged as the champion.

The Zamboanga City Jail Football Club, who scored four against the champion team, placed second.

The Mormon Football Club bagged the third place against the Chico Foot Ball Club Masters with the score of one against zero.

The game, according to Agustin, was just made for fun, camaraderie, and friendship among the city jail foot ball club and the other football clubs.

"We are planning to conduct more Futsal games inside the city jail in the future after the success of this friendship game," said Agustin.

Meanwhile, Agustin said the Zamboanga City Jail Football Club, headed by inmate Badang, was formed to promote football in this city.

The said team is composed of 12 inmates, most them soccer players when they were still outside, and 3 jail personnel assigned in the city jail.

"Getting inmates into sports will help them become more responsible," said Agustin.
