Beverley GuardianMill Lane girls win Futsal tournamentWednesday 4 May 2011MILL LANE under-10s celebrated recently after winning the 2011 East Riding five-a-side Futsal tournament.
The group stages got off to a slow start for the girls, as they lost their opening game 2-1 to North Ferriby Greens.
Adjusting to the five-a-side format, Mill Lane improved match-by-match beating Hedon Rangers 3-0, Goole Town 2-1 and North Ferriby Whites 7-1 on their way to qualifying for the semi finals.
For the second time this season Mill Lane were drawn against Goole Town in a cup semi final and once again it produced a keenly contested encounter.
Goole struck first, taking an early lead, before Hannah Winter equalised.
Hope Barrett gave Mill Lane the advantage only for Goole to hit back locking the teams together at 2-2.
Evie Barrett regained the initiative with two goals sending Mill Lane to the final with a 4-2 win.
Opposing finalists North Ferriby Greens, the only team to have previously beaten Mill Lane, took an early final lead against the run of play.
However Evie Barrett levelled the score at 1-1 before the half-time break.
With great team spirit Mill Lane had left their best until last with strong defending by Annabel Laughton and Olivia Morris backed up with a superb display in goal by Freyja McCord.
Some quality movement and passing between Hope Barrett, Hannah Winter and Evie Barrett kept the pressure on Ferriby until Evie Barrett struck twice to complete her hat-trick and a cup winning 3-1 victory.

Hessle Town 0
Hessle Town provided tough opposition with a battling midfield and determined defence. With Becky Long working hard up front Mill Lane were unable to convert early chances. As it looked as though the first half wasn’t going to produce any goals Mill Lane were awarded a free kick outside the box. Evie Barrett then stepped up to strike an unstoppable shot high into the net.
As the second half got under way Mill Lane picked up the pace with some good work from Hope Barrett and player of the match Connie Forward. Once again however Hessle managed to frustrate Mill lane with a resilient defence. With five minutes to go the game was finally made safe when Hannah Winter played a one two with Hope Barrett before firing home to seal a 2-0 win.
