CITY OFFER FUTSAL FUN

Wed 11 May 2011

Bristol City are offering young people in Bristol an exciting opportunity to gain an educational scholarship through the Football Club, coupled with the chance to take part in the fast growing game of Futsal.
Futsal is the only format of Small Sided Football that is recognised and supported by FIFA and UEFA with World and European Championships for club and National Teams.
It is a Fun, enjoyable and exciting game. Whilst it can be a sport in its own right, Futsal does not compete with football but serves to support it.
Futsal is a five-a-side game, played on a flat indoor pitch with hockey-sized goals and a size 4 ball with a reduced bounce.
It is played to touchlines and all players are free to enter the penalty area and play the ball over head height. Games are 20 minutes a half, played to a stopping clock - as in basketball - with time-outs permitted.
The course is available to school year 11 & 12 students, who should have four GCSEs, or equivalent, at C grade or above. The two year, full time Futsal and Education scholarship will lead to a Level Three BTEC National Extended Diploma in Sport, which is equivalent to three A levels.
The course is starting in September at Ashton Gate Stadium and will cover eight hours of education and eight hours of futsal a week, including training and fixtures.
Students will be trained by Bristol City coaches, take part in fortnightly fixtures against other Football League clubs in the South West and be treated like other club scholars in that they will wear club kit, have opportunities to attend matchdays and have access to facilities at the Football Club.
Community Development Officer Geoff Stevens told bcfc.co.uk: "This is a unique and exciting opportunity for students in Bristol to gain a first-class education at a Professional Football Club, that will not only allow them the chance to get to university, but also gain qualifications that will allow them an exit route to employment within Sport and Leisure.
"The added bonus is that they get to play Futsal while doing this and the opportunity to compete against other clubs in the South West from the Football League for Bristol City in a professional Futsal environment."
An open evening for potential students, who are in year 11/12, will be held at Ashton Gate Stadium on Tuesday, May 24th from 6.30pm - 8pm.
Anyone interested in attending can send a confirmation e-mail to tommy.hutchison@bcfc.co.uk to book a place. Alternatively you can book a place for the open evening by calling the Community team on 0117 9630636.
