Futsal fun day in Catterick

Middlesbrough Futsal Club are taking futsal to Catterick in a bid to spread the word about this exciting new sport.

On 22nd May Catterick Leisure Centre will host a Futsal Open Day with coaching for kids and a kickabout for adults, rounded off by an exhibition game between FA Futsal League giants Middlesbrough and newly promoted East Coast Futsal Club, from Scarborough.

The fun kicks off at 1pm when coaches, including England international Jason Kilbride, will take two separate sessions for 5-11 year olds and 11-16 year olds, followed by a series of short adult matches from 1.45. Finally there’s the chance to watch Boro in action, as Middlesbrough take on East Coast at 2.30pm.

All sessions are now fully booked, but entry to watch the big game is free and spectators are encouraged to come along to witness a game first hand and find out how to get involved in futsal.

Middlesbrough Futsal Club will be starting regular futsal sessions in Catterick shortly after the open day. For anybody interested in joining the club, on 22nd May there will be the opportunity to sign up for future coaching sessions, summer courses and leagues for all age groups.

Jody Evans, Catterick Leisure Centre Operations Manager is really keen for futsal to take off in Catterick.

“It’s an exciting version of small sided football and we want to be able to offer that to the people of Catterick and we are really pleased that Middlesbrough, a flagship team for the North East, are getting involved,” he said.

Middlesbrough Chairman Damon Shaw added: “We want more people to get involved and with us being the only team in the area, we can tap into the surrounding areas for talent, and support. The project in Catterick will add to and feed into the vision we are building in Boro, of which the next step is to be national champions.”

Middlesbrough finished third in The FA Futsal League North this season, but have high hopes of regaining the title they won in 2009 after a positive end to the 2010-11 season.
