Micah’s lone goal saves Kurukuru

The Kurukuru have one foot in the semi-finals of the OFC Futsal Championship after eventually edging out a determined Tahiti outfit 1-0.

The young Solomon Islands futsal side overcame a real tough Tahiti challenge last night at the Vodafone Arena.

Both teams entered the court gunning for a win in the match to better their chances of winning topping their pool.

The Tahitians proved to be the surprise package of the championship and entertained the fans with fast paced Futsal skills throughout the match. The boys from the French territory matched the Kurukuru in all aspects of the game.

The only goal of the match came from Micah Lea’alafa just before the half time whistle sounded.

The first half concluded with both teams going to the breather with Kurukuru leading 1-0.

The second spell, as expected, produced alot of fireworks as both teams hunt for more goals to seal a victory.

The Solomon Islands Kurukuru’s have taken the lead through a Micah Lea’alafa goal late in the first spell and have continued to mount more attacks but were held at bay by the strong Tahiti defence.

After minutes of failed attempts from both sides, time moved by quickly and both teams came to a halt at the sound of the final whistle.

The 1-0 victory has put the Kurukuru’s on top of the points table with six points after two impressive wins.

Dickson Kadau's side now need only a point from their final match with underdogs Tuvalu to make sure of progressing past the pool stages.

In the earlier games yesterday, New Zealand beat Kiribati 21-1 and New Caledonia defeated Tuvalu 11-1, while Vanuatu became the first team to qualify for the semi-finals by overcoming Fiji 5-2 in a thrilling encounter.

Kurukuru will take on Tuvalu today for the final pool match.
