English futsal: league game report

Sheffield FC
Sheffield FC V East Coast

15/05/11

The penultimate game of the season for Sheffield FC saw the team welcome struggling East Coast to Hillsborough. The reverse fixture saw Sheffield run away with a 17-3 victory, however since the previous meeting East Coast have picked up their first points of season and came in to the game with confidence. This confidence was clear from the off with the first 5 minutes being very tight with both teams creating chances. The deadlock was broken in the 7th minute with a first time long range strike form England international Ben Mortlock after a good lay off from Jonny Steel.

Sheffield began to take the game to East Coast racing in to a 7 goal lead with two goals from Ryon Leyshon, Joel Rocha got on the score sheet with Jonny Steel drilling home a further goal as well Simon Tyndel contributing a first half hat-trick. East Coast pulled a goal back with a fine solo effort from their captain but that was only a consolation in an impressive first half that ended 11-1. Throughout the game the Sheffield players showed great endeavour and moved the ball at a high intensity which the East Coast team struggled to match. Goals in the second half came from Richard Ward, Manny Burgess, Adam Oldham, Adam Jones as well as Ryon Leyshon adding a further two goals taking him to an impressive 25 for the season. Simon Tyndel stole the headlines though grabbing himself a second half hat-trick as well taking him to six for the afternoon. The full-time whistle did not come soon enough for the East Coast team who failed to get past the very reliable Sheffield keeper Curtis Holmes in the second half. The game ended 20-1, coach Mark Woodcock was very happy with his players and their work rate.

Sheffield travel to Tranmere this coming weekend needing a point to seal the title for the second year running, before heading to London for the Grand Finals in early June.
