Mexico travels to Brazil next week for 2003 Copa Latina de Futsal

10.05.03 - Continuing its preparation for next year’s CONCACAF Futsal Championship, Mexico will travel to Sao Bernado do Campo, Brazil to compete at the 2003 Copa Latina de Futsal from 15-17 May.

Mexico and the three-time world champions Brazil will join Uruguay and a Brazilian selected youth squad at the four-team competition that will be played at the Ginásio Cidade de São Bernardo.

The tricolor open the round-robin event on 15 May against Uruguay at 18:30 local time. The next day, Mexico will battle the samba kings at 18:30. The tricolores close out the competition on 17 May with an early 8:30 kickoff against the Brazilian youth select team.

Of the 12-man roster, Mexican technical director Jesús Bravo Reyna has five veterans from the squad that finished fourth at the 2000 CONCACAF tournament in Costa Rica.

Next year’s CONCACAF Championship will take place in Guatemala (to be completed by 30 June) and will be the Confederation’s qualifying competition for 2004 FIFA Futsal World Championship in Chinese Taipei. CONCACAF has been granted two places at the FIFA world stage.
