Futsal: Yellow Marines win Mtarfa Military Cup

Yellow Marines won the Mtarfa Military Day Cup first edition organised by Mtarfa FC. The five-a-side tournament was part of the Mtarfa Military Day event and in memory of Malta’s first ever silver trophy to be won - the Mtarfa Cup in 1912 since the MFA’s foundation in 1900.

Eight teams participated with the majority of the players taking part in the MFA top leagues. All participants selected military names for their team to match with the Military Day theme. These were Royal Mtarfa, Anglo Store, Underdogs, St John Regiment, Mgarr RA, Rabat Lightning, Buqana Riders and winners Yellow Marines.

Floriana and St Georges inaugurated the tournament with a 30-minute match in memory of Mtarfa Cup followed with trophy presentation to both teams by Mtarfa Local Council.

The Yellow Marines players were Cedrick Zahra, Giorgio Cumbo, Cleaven Mizzi, Joseph Pearson, Omar Smier (Mtarfa FC), Jonathan Pearson (Hibs), Adam Smier (Rabat A.), and Vincent. In the final match they beat Rabat Lightnings 5-2.

Referee of the match was Mr Reno Galea.

The tournament was organised with the collaboration of Mtarfa Local Council, and was sponsored by Pink Promotion and Bulmer’s Cider.
