Thai Son Nam seek new blood

HA NOI — Indoor football (futsal) team Thai Son Nam will enrol 20 teenagers into its second training course at the Thanh Long Sports Centre in HCM City next month, the team has announced.

Qualified under-15 candidates will partake in a four-year training course at the team's headquarters before playing for the main squad after graduating in 2015.

"Although we would have liked to recruit under-11 players for a second course, we need a face-lifted squad in three years time. Seven players, having graduated from the first course in 2008, joined the main squad competing in the national championships," said team chairman Tran Anh Tu.

Thai Son Nam has two squads of 24 official players in total, seven of them national team members.

All teenagers enrolled in the course will undergo professional football training and regular schooling under eight coaches.

"We'll teach them the best skills and knowledge regarding indoor football, helping improve their eligibility for national selection in three years time," said coach Nguyen Duc Duy.

In order to improve training quality, the HCM City-based team named Italian Sergio Gargelli, who had been coaching in Japan, as head coach last year.

Thai Son Nam has constructed Viet Nam's first ever futsal training centre in HCM City's District 8.

The team has won the national futsal championship three times in a row since it debuted in 2008.

Earlier this year, two top players Nguyen Bao Quan and goalkeeper Dang Phuoc Anh joined in a training session with the Spanish Segovia Futsal Club.
