Negri beat Terengganu but lose keeper Khairul

Wednesday June 8, 2011

SHAH ALAM: Negri Sembilan have a daunting task against favourites Selangor in the semi-finals of the men’s futsal competition today.

The underdogs beat Terengganu 4-2 to advance but they will be without first choice goalkeeper Mohd Khairul Izwan Berhanuddin, who was shown the red card in the match at the Matsushita Sports Complex here yesterday.

Terengganu took a 2-0 lead with goals by Mohd Razimi Mohd Rosli (5th) and Mohd Ameer Shafeeq Zaidi (12th). But Negri stormed back with goals by Mohd Ali Mahat (14th, 16th), Yazid Kamaruzuan (36th) and Abu Haniffa Hassan (39th).

Negri coach Qusmaini Noor Rusli believes his side can spring an upset against the much fancied Selangor.

“We have met our target of reaching the semi-finals. Now we will go all out to stun favourites Selangor,” he said.

“Against Terengganu, we were shaky and nervous after losing our goalkeeper early in the match but the players showed character to bounce back from a 2-0 deficit to win it. I believe my players will do well against Selangor. They have to stick to the game plan.”
