Rosmah: Build more futsal courts

PETALING JAYA: Local councils and private organisations should build more futsal courts in housing areas through their corporate social responsibility programmes, said Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.

The Prime Minister’s wife said it had become a favourite sport among youths but the number of futsal courts was still not enough.

She suggested that at least one futsal court be built in each community.

“I can see futsal is enjoyed by both men and women. Every time there is a competition, many are eager to take part.

“Encouraging youths to get into healthy activities, like futsal, can help combat social habits such as loitering and illegal racing,” she said when closing the 1Giatmara Futsal Championship at the Sports Planet in Kota Damansara here yesterday.

“Besides physical and mental development, it could foster the spirit of sportsmanship, encourage competitiveness and teamwork,” she said.

About 2,000 participants from Giatmara campuses nationwide took part in the two-day event to mark 25 years of its establishment.
