LUCY Marvell is eager to get a chance to play soccer in the US after her career has rocketed recently.

Lucy, 15, of Springwood, plays futsal for the under-16 West City Crusaders and soccer for the Marconi Stallions.

Despite being early in her career, the midfielder is dedicated to reaching the US professional league.

“My ultimate aim is to get a scholarship at an American college and play in the professional league over there,” Lucy said. “But I know there is still a fair way to go before that.

“I am very happy that I made the NSW futsal team after only two seasons playing for the West City Crusaders - I was shocked.

“To play in the national championships and win the title was a great achievement.”

Lucy, this week’s nominee for the Penrith Press Junior Sports Star award - sponsored by Rebel Sport - won the FFA national futsal championships with NSW Thunder. They beat South Australia 3-1 in the final in Canberra.

“It was pretty cool to represent NSW after only starting futsal two seasons ago,” Lucy said.

“I started off playing futsal just to continue working on my skills, but I like it a lot now.”
