The Phuket NewsPlenty of action in futsal finale - Friday, 8th July 2011PHUKET: With final league positions, top goalscorer award and local pride all up for grabs, the final round of this season’s Adult Futsal League was always going to be a good one.
Played at the Thanyapura Sports and Leisure Club in Thalang on June 30, spectators to the first game between Thanyapura SLC and SGS were treated to a fast start with TSLC scoring through their top scorer Ken after just two minutes.
SGS were on level terms after 13 minutes when Surapong calmly slotted in from close range. TSLC came back in emphatic style, scoring two goals in the final four minutes of the first half through Sayan and Apiwat.
Within seconds of the re-start, TSLC scored their fourth goal of the match, with Apiwat left unmarked in the box to slide the ball past the oncoming SGS keeper.
With a three-goal lead, Thanyapura comfortably controlled the game until, with nine minutes remaining, SGS top marksman Duangdee dribbled around the static TSLC defence to fire in SGS’s second goal of the game.
This revived the SGS players and they were rewarded with a third goal in the 35th minute through Surapong.
Then in a dramatic finale, SGS scored the equaliser in the 39th minute, Surapong knocking the ball in to grab his first hat-trick of the season. Final score: Thanyapura SLC 4, SGS 4.
Up next, Thalang Tigers took on Island Boys. With Island Boys looking to finish the season with 3 points, the match was a hard-fought affair.
First to score were Thalang, in the 14th minute, through Suripong.
Island Boys kept to their game plan by moving the ball around effectively and nearly equalising on two occasions before Thalang scored their second and third goals in quick succession at the end of the first half.
Despite their positive play in the second, Island Boys could only manage one goal through Mark Lightfoot, as Thalang managed to see out a comfortable 3-1 win.
The final game of the evening saw Season 7 champions Portrait FC versus runners up Jitjongrut FC in a match for local bragging rights.
With both teams’ positions cemented before the match, this was strictly a friendly.
Portrait showed why they had remained unbeaten for the season, taking a 2-0 lead by half time, with Veerachai and Kitti both netting in style.
The second half continued in the same vain with Jitjongrut moving the ball around well but unable to find the net, and Portrait happy to pick up the pieces and play at their own pace.
Jitjongrut managed a last-second consolation goal through Sukitti, but it was too late to stop Portrait running away with a 4-1 win.
The next season of the Adult Futsal League is due to start on August 25 at TSLC. – Martin Hill
