Futsal players back ousted boss Adisak

7/07/2011

Adisak Benjasiriwan is urging futsal (five-a-side) players to continue playing for the country although he has been removed as national team manager.

National players yesterday gave Adisak moral support after Football Association of Thailand (FAT) president Worawi Makudi removed him as Thailand's manager and chief of the country's development for the sport on Tuesday.

Worawi said he could not work with Adisak because he switched his allegiance to Virach Charnpanich who challenged Worawi in last month's election for FAT president won by Worawi.

"I'd like to thank everyone for your hard work. Although I now do not have any position at FAT, I'd like you all to continue doing your duty for the country," said Adisak who worked for the national team for 10 years.

"It is sad that I have to leave futsal after 10 years with the national team. I am still ready to help you."

Several players were in tears and said they were saddened by Adisak's departure.

Thailand captain Panuwat Janta told Adisak: "We are ready to do according to your guidance. We all are really sad."

Worawi has named Thirachai Wuthitham to replace Adisak.

Dubbed the "father of Thai futsal," Adisak guided Thailand to three consecutive World Futsal Championship finals in 2000, 2004 and 2008.

Thailand will host the World Futsal Championship next year.
