THE Northern TIV (Then India Valibar) Sangam Futsal League, which began in Labasa last week, hopes to produce more skilful players who could play at the international level.

The league, which is a build-up to the TIV Sangam soccer tournament, was held at the Labasa FSC grounds. Northern TIV Sangam Futsal League president Kamendra Naidu said the Fiji Futsal team consisted of four Labasa TIV Sangam players, and these were Roy Krishna, Ajesh Narayan, Sandeep Nair and Mira Sahib.

Mr Naidu said the launch of the Futsal league would provide other talented and skilful players to gain recognition.

"We want to develop more players to play at the international level," Naidu said.

"This league is launched for the first time in the north and it will encourage talented players to display their skills at such events."

The Northern TIV Sangam soccer tournament, which follows the Futsal league, is scheduled to be held from July 26 to July 31 at Subrail Park in Labasa.

A multicultural night is planned to be held on July 27, which would have the different cultural performances and an act by the Vaturekuka Correctional Facility inmates.

"This event aims towards uniting people from the various racial backgrounds and also show support for the Yellow Ribbon program by accepting prisoners back into our societies and giving them a second chance," Naidu said.
