Guam Pacific Daily NewsSubaru STI shuts down Quality DistributorsSubaru STI earned its second consecutive win after shutting out Quality Distributors 5-0 in the Guam Football Association Bud Light Women's Futsal League yesterday afternoon at the Guam sports complex gym. The victory improved Subaru's record to 2-2, while Quality drops to 1-3.
Subaru's goalkeeper Simone Bollinger said the team is starting to come together after a shaky start to the season. "We're working as a unit," she said.
"Our teamwork is there, we're talking a lot and just our knowledge of futsal now is at a point where we feel confident on the court."
The pace of the game was fervent from the start, as both teams took numerous shots. Subaru's Jennifer Shen was the first to strike pay-dirt when she found herself open for a breakaway shot that rocketed past Quality's goalkeeper Samantha Guzman. Meagan Crisostomo added to Subaru's lead when she hammered in a goal off of an assist from Kim Sherman, who then followed up her assist with a goal of her own just before the first half ended.
Subaru continued to keep Quality on its heels in the second half as Sherman managed to shake free from her defender and tapped in a goal to make the score 4-0. Toward the end of the game, Guzman denied a shot from Shen, but Ashlie Fee was there to blast in a goal that applied the finishing touch on the game.
Team captain Felicia Reinert was pleased with Subaru's stout defensive effort and how crucial it was to the contest. "The keys to the game were really tough defense, communication and our team's energy level was palpable from the opening whistle," Reinert added.
