The ColumbianYouth futsal team wins silverA team from the Vancouver Futsal Academy placed second in the 8-and-younger division at the U.S. Futsal national Championships. The five-a-side soccer tournament was held July 15-17 at Anaheim, Calif.
Established last year by the Slavic Christian Academy, the Vancouver Futsal Academy sent two teams to represent Washington at the national tournament. The 10-and-younger team took fifth place in its division.
Futsal is played on basketball-sized courts. This was the 27th annual U.S. championship tournament. The Vancouver Futsal Academy was established by Slavic Christian Academy teacher Dmitry Dauksh.
Players who participated in the national tournament were Nick Solovey, Eric Lakey, Vitaly Kazakov, Michel Fedaruk, Mathew Shafarenko, Edward Orlovsky, Valentine Guds, Stanislav Vasiliev, William Kononenko, and goalkeeper Dennis Babiy. Andrey Dolbinin, the principal at SCA, was the manager for the teams.
