Quality cruises to 10-2 win over Strykers

by Kolby Chang

Quality Distributors FC continued their winning ways in the Calvo's Insurance Men's Futsal League by thoroughly dismantling the Paintco Strykers 10-2 last night at the Agueda Johnston Middle School gym.

The victory improved Quality's record to 6-0. Quality is currently tied for first place with Guam Shipyard.

Andre Gadia and Irving Mercado notched a hat trick apiece while Matt Cruz contributed two goals for Quality. Gadia said controlling the tempo early in the game is what got the team off to a hot start. "We always push the first ten minutes," he said.

In spite of the impressive win and the team's unblemished record, Gadia is remaining humble and focused. "We hope to finish the season off with all wins, but that's looking too far ahead," he said.

"We just got to look toward the next game and work on practicing to win that game," he added.

There was an ostensible amount of energy being displayed during the opening minutes as players from each team eagerly took shots at their opposing goals. It was Quality, however, that gained the upper hand first and they never loosened their grip on the game. Gadia racked up his first goal when he fired in a laser beam shot from near mid-court. Gadia tallied his second goal shortly after and Mercado closed out the first half with a goal that gave Quality the early lead.

Quality kicked it into high gear in the second half as Gadia sent in another screamer off of a nice assist from Scott Spindel. Spindel then racked up a goal of his own after receiving a slick assist off of a header from James Bush.

Scoring spree

Quality did not let up as Cruz and Mercado each booted in a goal, respectively. Mercado collected his third goal with less than five minutes in the game when he sent in a goal past Stryker's keeper Julius Campos. Following Mercado's goal, the Strykers were charged with a handball and Bush seized the opportunity to seal the game by crushing in a penalty kick.

FJ Chargulaf scored two goals for the Strykers who lost for the first time this season and now stand at 5-1.
