Bellingen High dominates at Northern NSW Futsal Titles

09 Aug, 2011

Futsal is organised in a round robin format with teams needing to finish first or second to qualify to go on to the next tournament. The first round was held in Coffs Harbour in May against teams in our local area. After having all six teams from BHS qualify for the next level, the Northern NSW state titles, big things were expected with all teams keen to qualify for the Australian titles.
The Northern NSW Champion of Champions was held at Port Macquarie over two days last week. Again Bellingen High School dominated the championships with outstanding results, with three Champion teams and two Runner-ups and a third. An amazing result!

19 years boys
The 19 years boys had a great day with captain Rob leading the way in commitment and skill, well supported by Dean, Dale, Tanjil and Harlen. These boys certainly showed how the ball can do the work and displayed superior team skills to dominate the preliminaries and then take out the grand final.

19 years girls
The 19 years girls team had a tough draw having to play Kellyville from the Central Coast (last years 16 years National Champions) in their first game. The girls played an excellent game and despite Kellyville scoring first came back strongly with a goal to Kanisha before half time to make the score 1-1. In the second half they came out more determined than ever and goals to Ruby Campbell, Kanisha Phillips-Cooke and Jessica Marks saw them take the game 4-2. It really was a tremendous team effort. From there the girls defeated Wauchope 6-2, St Columba 4-2 and then drew with Westport 1-1. This put them clearly in first position and the girls were happy to take away the well-deserved gold medals. Unfortunately, this team may not be able to make the Australian Championships due to HSC commitments.

16 years boys
This team of enthusiastic players were somewhat disappointed when they narrowly lost some early games. They won 2 out of 4 preliminary games which put them in 3rd position overall. Coach, Tom Campbell said they all tried hard but they obviously missed Mr Lynch who was away on the Jindabyne excursion.
