Wednesday 17 August 2011

Győri ETO FC booked their place in the next stage of the UEFA Futsal Cup courtesy of a 10-3 defeat of Stella Rossa Wien which ensured they ended preliminary round Group E with a 100% record.

Zsolt Gyurcsányi added to his single goals against FC Anzhi Tallinn and Helvécia Futsal London on the opening two matchdays with a first-half hat-trick for the Hungarian side. Ákos Harnisch matched his team-mates' haul when he scored Győri's eighth of the game on 28 minutes, while Stella Rossa's Branko Milutinović completed the third treble of the match late on.

Győri − who had goalkeeper Gábor Matkovics sent off with a quarter of an hour remaining − progress to main round Group 2 to face FC Barcelona, hosts FK Nikars Riga and the winners of Group C, decided when SC Tornado Chisinau play hosts KMF Leotar Trebinje on Thursday. Helvécia finished second in the section after beating Anzhi 5-0.

Elsewhere on Wednesday, FC Geneva did their chances of joining Győri in the next stage the power of good with a 15-1 victory against the first Welsh side to enter the competition, The New Saints FC. Clayton Pinheiro scored five for the Swiss team as the mini-tournament hosts increased their goal difference in Group B to a healthy +14, a tally which could be the tie-breaker in the event of them finishing level on points with Ireland's EID Futsal.

Geneva and EID have four points apiece after matchday 2, the latter having triumphed 5-4 in a dramatic encounter with FK Nautara Kaunas, who are a point behind. A 39th-minute own goal from Darius Urbelionis proved decisive yet there was still time for Nautara's Audrius Kšanavičius to miss a penalty with 29 seconds remaining. The section concludes on Friday.
