Final day of UEFA Futsal Cup

Friday, 19 August 2011

Perth Saltires brought the curtain down on the UEFA Futsal cup Preliminary round at Bells Sports Centre, Perth with a last gasp equaliser against group winners FK Ilves Tampere. Sean Fergus netted the all important goal which won the Perth side their first point in European competition.

The other game resulted in Bajo Pivljanin Pluzine finishing runners-up in Group A after proving too strong for SD Croatia Berlin in an entertaining game. Bajo raced into a 6-1 half-time lead thanks to a Bojan Bajovic hat-trick, and although their German opponents rallied after the break, the Montenegrin eventually side won 9-6, aided by another Bajovic effort.

Ilves Tampere will now take on Italy's Marca Futsal, Romanian hosts City 'US Tārgu Mures and MNK Split in main round Group 5 next month.

The competition has earned great praise from the competing teams, UEFA and the spectators attending matches and the success of the event can be attributed to Steve Chatila from Perth Saltires who worked tirelessly before and during the event to ensure that Futsal was the winner.

Congratulation to Ilves Tampere and well done Steve.
