Anton B. FrancisPinto Fernando’s team annexed the “Albert Fernando” Challenge Trophy, beating Neville Perera’s team by 2 goals to nil at the Annual Old Bens Sports Club Veterans Futsal (5-a-side) Soccer Tournament held at St. Benedict’s College ground, Kotahena.
The event was organized by the Old Bens Veterans Soccer Wing and held for the second year in succession to enable all Old Bens soccerites to get together and enjoy the fun and frolic.
The tournament was conducted with around 60 members of the OBSC Veterans wing divided into six, teams playing in 2 groups, each team consisting, 2 over-50 players and 3 over 40 players while participating.

Pinto Fernando’s team beat Tony Anandappa’s team 2/0 on penalties (full time 0/0)

Pinto Fernando’s team beat Neville Perera’s team 2/0.
Pinto Fernando’s winning team, comprised of Malcolm Rodrigo, Sisira Kumara Perera, Ravi Alphonso, Crestan Fernando, Sri Kanth Tambirajah, Nishantha Fernando, Aubry Harold, Dilip Thampo and Suresh Fernando.

A galaxy of Bens past Captains, Jayantha Wanigasuriya (1973), Neville Perera (1974), Lakshman Caldera (1975 and ’76), Wijitha Perera (1977), Waldo Fernando (1978), Anura de Silva (1980), Randolf Perera (1981) and R. Premil (1982) including the present SBC 1st XI Coach and former player, Sharman Caldera participated in the tournament.
Former Old Bens Captain in 1968, Amal Raj Mirando graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and past Sri Lanka Soccerite, Martin Wijesundara gave away the awards.
