MIDDLESBROUGH ANNOUNCE DOUBLE SPANISH SIGNINGBoro are proud to announce the signings of former Spain Under-21 international Ernesto Casañ López from Albacete F.S and Samuel Gallego Muelas from Team Northumbria.
Ernesto Casan will join his new team mates on their preseason tour in Barcelona before returning home and flying to Middlesbrough in time for the start of the season, while Sam Gallego will continue his pre season training in Newcastle, meeting up with the squad on 11th September.
Ernesto won 16 caps for Spain Under-21s winning the UEFA Futsal Under-21 Championship in 2007, and reaching the semi final in the following season and Gallego played in the Spanish segunda division in football, before coming to England and being part of Team Northumbria’s BUCS runners-up squad, beating Teesside in the semi final. Sam will continue to represent Northumbria in the BUCS competition.
Both players will bring something different to the team, and both will add quality.
“Ernesto will fit into our team and bring a host of experience to a young, talented squad. I’m excited to welcome him to Boro and I am sure he will become a fans’ favourite as well,” said Damon Shaw.
“Sam has all the right ingredients to be a Boro player too and has already proven himself against some of England’s best teams. The two Spaniards will be welcome additions to the rest of the squad and will only serve to push us even further. It's a testament to the work we've done over the years, that we can attract such a high profile player to move to Teesside, to play futsal for Boro. Hopefully it will spur us on to the title and really put Boro on the map as England's leading club.”
It’s a big step for Ernesto moving here but he is relishing the challenge.
“I can’t wait to help Boro to win the title. They are a club with a great future and I want to be part of that. I am looking forward to meeting my new team mates in Barcelona and then making my debut in front of the amazing fans!” enthused Ernesto.
Ernesto will wear the number 14 shirt, while Gallego will take the number 4, left vacant by Jon Prosser’s move to East Coast.
Both players are available to sponsor for £100, visit BoroFutsal.com to find out more.
