Futsal coach quits

Jose Maria Mendez has resigned as coach of Thailand's national futsal (five-a-side) team.

Affectionately known as "Pupis," Mendez took the job in 2008 and helped Thailand shoot to No.9 in the world ranking.

Mendez was brought to Thailand by then national team manager Adisak Benjasiriwan.

Adisak was axed by Worawi Makudi after he was re-elected as president of the Football Association of Thailand last month.

Worawi said he could not work with Adisak because he supported another candidate in the election.

Thailand will host the Fifa Futsal World Cup next year.
