AFC.comAFC plans record 627 courses for 2012Tuesday, 16 August 2011Kuala Lumpur: AFC’s mission to empower Asian coaches takes an upturn with its record 627 coaching courses planned by the Education Division for its member associations next year.
The number, consisting of 569 courses for all member associations and 58 for AFC Vision Asia projects, is an encouraging jump from a total of 561 courses (498 for MAs and 63 for AFC Vision Asia projects) in 2011.
“This is a good indication that coach education receives high priority from AFC and its MAs and this is an encouraging development that will take Asian football higher,” AFC Education Division Director Hasan Al Sabah told the-afc.com.
The courses are for the (both men and women) ‘C’, ‘B’ and ‘A’ Coaching Certificates, Pro Diploma, Goalkeeping Coaching Certificate Levels 1, 2 and 3, Conditioning Coaching Certificate, Futsal Coaching Certificate Levels 1 and 2 as well as the Football for Disabled Player Coaching Certificate.
Of the 569 courses for all MAs, 119 will be conducted for the Asean region, 77 for the West region, 122 East, 228 South and 23 for the Central region.
Al Sabah is also pleased to see a trend whereby more local experts become coaching instructors.
He said: “Of the total of 627 coaching courses for next year, only 189 courses will be instructed by AFC instructors outside the MAs, while the bulk of the courses, 438 of them, will be taught by local AFC instructors.
“We get UEFA instructors only for the Pro Diploma courses but we are also training AFC instructors to teach in the Pro Diploma programme.
“This is a healthy beginning for coaching instructors from the respective MAs, who are gradually becoming more independent in providing education to the coaches.”
In the long term it is hoped that all member associations will adopt the policies and procedures of AFC in order to become operationally independent, allowing them to go forward for the growth of football.
