Blind squad draw 2-2 with Germany in opening game.

England Blind Football Team finished their first group game of the eighth IBSA European Blind Futsal Championships with a 2-2 draw against rivals Germany.

The Three Lions started the game brightly with captain Dave Clarke striking the post and Keryn Seal forcing a good save from the German 'keeper. Robin Williams threatened the German defence on numerous occasions forcing the opposition to concede a number of fouls and again hitting the post with a good strike.

Clarke and Gribbin both failed to score from eight metres before the Germans went ahead following an indirect free kick. Gribbin equalised before half time with a eight metre penalty and, despite dominating the majority of play, England went in at the interval at 1-1.

England continued to dominate the game in the second half and again created a number of chances following good work from Clarke and Dan English.

Both teams continued to concede free kicks and the accumulated team foul count was again introduced early in the half. Both teams squandered a number of eight metre penalties with England goalkeeper Lewis Skyers making some valuable saves.

Despite positive England pressure, the Germans took the lead again with a shot through a crowded defence. England pressed for an England equaliser with direct runs from Seal, English and Harris. England scored their second goal with an impressive dribble and strike from Dave Clarke that left the German 'keeper helpless. In the last minute, England had a clear penalty claim turned down by the referee.

England plays their second group game against Italy on Tuesday.
