Hyundai wins futsal title

Jannel Banks and Arisa Recella each had a brace to lead Hyundai to a 5-4 victory over the Orange Crushers in the title match of the 2011 Bud Light Women's Futsal League that was held Sunday at the Guam Sports Complex in Dededo.

"It was a good end to a long season and on any given day any team could have beaten the other," league commissioner Grace Martinez said.

"On a scale of 1 to 10, the excitement level was about a 9," she added.

Tanya Blas-Cruz scored the other goal for Hyundai as it added to their Bud Light Women's Soccer League title won back in May of this year.

Simie Willter also had a hat trick for the Crushers and a goal from Abbey Iriarte.

The Bud Light Women's 7-a-side Soccer League is next up, Martinez said. Teams have confirmed to play and the league is tentatively scheduled to start Oct. 16.

Here are the results in the other matches:

The Strykers defeated Quality Distributors 3-2 to take third place. Two goals by Caroline Quigley and a goal by Alexy Barbe were enough to give the Strykers the win. Paige Surber and Joanie Bamhouse scored for Quality.

The semifinals also took place yesterday. Here's a look at how the teams got to the finals:

•Hyundai def. Strykers 8-2: Banks slotted in five goals in the romp. Recella, Ashley Besagar and Jena Cruz added the other goals while Barbe had both scores for Strykers.

•Crushers def. Quality 2-0: Iriarte notched both goals to send Crushers to the championship match.
