Frankie PerezTuesday, 04 October 2011Guam - Jannel Banks and Arisa Recella each had a brace to lead Hyundai to a 5-4 victory over Orange Crushers in the title match of the 2011 Bud Light Women’s Futsal League yesterday at the Guam Sports Complex.
“It was a good end to a long season and on any given day any team could have beaten the other,” league commissioner Grace Martinez said. “On a scale of 1 to 10, the excitement level was about a 9,” she said.
Tanya Blas-Cruz scored the other goal as Hyundai added to their Bud Light Women’s Soccer League title won back in May of this year.
Simie Willter also had a hat trick in a losing effort for Crushers, who got their other goal from Abbey Iriarte.
Strykers 3-2 Quality Distributors: Goals from Caroline Quigley (2) and Alexy Barbe were enough to earn Strykers third place. Paige Surber and Jodie Barnhouse scored for Quality.
The semifinals also took place yesterday. Here’s a look at how the teams got to the finals:
Hyundai 8-2 Strykers: Banks slotted in five goals in the romp. Recella, Ashley Besagar and Jena Cruz added the other goals while Barbe had both scores for Strykers.
Crushers 2-0 Quality: Birthday girl Iriarte notched both goals to send Crushers to the championship match.
Up NextThe Bud Light Women’s 7-a-side Soccer League is next up, Martinez said. Teams have confirmed to play and the league is tentatively scheduled to start October 16.
