Eakins, who played in last year’s ASB Premiership with Hawke’s Bay United, will be working closely with schools, beginning in his native South Auckland. Eakins says he took up the role to help develop the code with an eye on the future.
“I wanted to get involved in this role to help grow the game at all levels with a big emphasis on getting kids playing and enjoying futsal,” Eakins said.
New Zealand Football Futsal Development Manager Dave Payne is excited about the skills that Eakins can bring to the role.
“It’s great for futsal to have people like Marvin involved in a hands-on capacity. Not only is he an outstanding player and an OFC qualified coach, more importantly he is a well-respected leader and a positive role-model not only in New Zealand but across Oceania.”
“Marvin’s appointment adds to the number of people employed within federations working on the development of futsal. This network of people increases the capacity of the federations to deliver futsal programmes in line with the national strategy.”
Auckland Football CEO David Parker is delighted to have Eakins involved as futsal becomes an increasing priority in the New Zealand Football landscape.
“Futsal is fast-growing arm of football in New Zealand and we’re excited to have Marvin on board with us as we look to ramp up our development of the game in our federation,” Parker said.
