The Cairns PostJapanese too strong for Cairns team in futsal challengeby
Murray WenzelThursday, October 6, 2011THE fast feet of Forca FC were back in Cairns yesterday to defend the Cairns International Futsal title they won last year, and they made a bright start in their 6-3 defeat of local team Northern Nomads.
The Japanese side controlled possession with their highly-technical brand of futsal and it eventually took its toll on the weary Cairns team.
Tatsuya Kobayashi and Shosuke Chigusa both notched doubles as they got their campaign off to the perfect start.
Chigusa’s second was a ripping effort from near half way that was hit far too hard for the Nomads’ ’keeper.
The Nomads fought their way back with goals to Glen Rolley and Josh Craig in the space of one minute getting them back to 2-2.
But a goal with 10 seconds left in the first half gave Forca a 3-2 advantage and they broke down the Nomads after that.
Kobayashi said they had brought another strong team from Japan, keen to equal last year’s effort.
"We enjoyed coming here last year and we have some good players in our team again," he said.
But it’s not all about the competition for the tourists.
"We’ll sightsee as well. I want to go to the beach tomorrow," he said.
