LTS FC From Malaysia Finish Second In Tri-nation Futsal

October 10, 2011

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Oct 10 (Bernama) -- Malaysia, represented by LTS FC in the Red Bull Tri-Nation Futsal tournament hosted by Brunei at the Hassanal Bolkiah Indoor Stadium in Berakas, took second place.

In the deciding game, LTS FC drew 3-3 with QAF FC B but the team from the host country won the title on better goal difference after having scored more goals in previous matches compared with the Malaysian team.

In the tournament held for the first time, the winner pocketed B$4,500 (RM10,950.63) and a trophy presented by Pengiran Muda Sufri Bolkiah.

As runner-up, LTS FC took home B$2,250 (RM5,477.73) cash while Team B.A from Singapore which finished third returned home with B$1,250 (RM3,043.91).

LTS FC team manager Saiful Nizam Ismail said he was happy with the overall performance of his team although luck was not on their side.

"The players gave their all and created numerous goal scoring chances but luck deserted us," he told Bernama here.

LTS FC from Penang was crowned champions of the recent Futsal 5 Grand Final in Kuala Lumpur after going on an unbeaten run in the event which saw 23 other finalists from qualifying legs in Kota Kinabalu, Kota Baru, Kuantan, Johor Bahru, Subang Jaya, Penang and Kangar.

Red Bull Malaysia managing director Jay Sam told Bernama that the tournament was aimed to promote closer ties amongst neighbouring countries and to raise the overall standard of futsal in the region.

The event, offering B$8,000 (RM19,480.23) in total prize money, was sanctioned by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD).

Sam said hosting the annual Tri-Nations Cup would be on a rotation basis amongst the three participating countries.
