CONCACAF teams are in preparations for next year’s Futsal Championship which will also qualify four nations to the FIFA Futsal World Cup Thailand 2012 … Here is a look at what Costa Rica, Guatemala and USA are doing at the 2011 Grand Prix de Futsal in Brazil …

GUATEMALA FALLS TO BRAZIL; DEFEATS NETHERLANDS: After losing 5:0 in the opener to host Brazil the day before at Amadeu Teixeira Arena, Guatemala earned its first victory at the 2011 Grand Prix after defeating the Netherlands by a score of 4:1 in a Group A match at Gymnasium Sesi on 17 October … After trailing 1:0 at halftime, Jose Rafael Gonzalez scored twice, while Walter Alejandro Enriquez and Gerson Giovanni Mata added a goal apiece for the Chapines in their first win over the Dutch … Guatemala will aim for a quarterfinal berth as it faces Angola in the group finale at the Gymnasium Sesi on 18 October.

COSTA RICA LOSES TO PARAGUAY; TOPS ZAMBIA: Goals by Saulo Cervantes, Diego Alonso Vargas and Luis Alejandro Paniagua weren’t enough as Costa Rica lost a heartbreaking 4:3 encounter to Paraguay at the Gymnasium Sesi on 16 October … The following day, the Ticos earned their first victory of Group B by topping Zambia, 8:2, at the same venue … Gilbert Garro led Costa Rica’s offense with a hat-trick (three goals), while Paniagua and Jorge Villalobos added two goals each … Victor Valerin Sanchez closed out the scoring for the Ticos as they also earned their first win against an African team … Costa Rica will search for a spot into the tournament’s quarterfinals as they conclude group play against Russia at the Amadeu Teixeira Arena on 18 October.

USA DROPS MATCHES TO IRAN, URUGUAY: USA is looking for its first win at the 2011 Grand Prix after losing its previous two Group C encounters to Uruguay (7:0) and Iran (8:0) on 16 and 17 October, respectively … The Stars & Stripes will also seek to end their seven-game (overall) losing streak when they take on Belgium at the Gymnasium Sesi on 18 October.
