4 TradersSPORTING: Futsal Cup gets the green lightSporting Clube de Portugal and the Odivelas Municipal Council have officially formalised a partnership that will allow for the use of the Odivelas Municipal Pavilion for hosting of the Elite Round of this year's UEFA Futsal Cup.
The deal permits Sporting to use the facility from the 10th to the 21st of November and Orlando Duarte's squad is keen to make use of it, with the next futsal national championship game, against Módicus (this Saturday, the 12th, at 4:00pm), being held in the Pavilion, in preparation for UEFA Futsal Cup (16th, 17th and 19th of November). To thank the Odivelas Council for their willingness to get involved, Sporting's futsal team will visit various local schools and 50 local children will have the chance to watch a match in Estádio José Alvalade.
Godinho Lopes: "Odivelas a step towards the title"Sporting was represented at the ceremony by president Luís Godinho Lopes, board member Ricardo Tomás, director of non-football sports Mário Patrício and futsal director Miguel Albuquerque. The Alvalade president in fact took the opportunity to give a few words about the importance of Sporting's relationship with Odivelas and the club's intentions going into the competition. "It is a pleasure, for the second consecutive year, to share such a close relationship with the Odivelas Municipal Council. Last year we reached the final of the competition and this year we want to use Odivelas as a step towards the title. It would be nice to see this partnership also reach out to other sports. Sporting is an eclectic club and futsal is one of the sports that we practice, but we are always looking to broaden our horizons", said Luís Godinho Lopes.
Speaking more specifically about futsal, the president said: "Futsal is a sport that reaches out to a lot of people. You just need to look how many fans come to our games and how many people watched the UEFA Futsal Cup on TV last year."
Susana Amador: "Sporting boosts the quality of life in Odivelas"Susana Amador, president of the Odivelas Municipal Council, was also at the ceremony this afternoon and couldn't let the chance go by without highlighting the importance of the role played by Sporting in the area: ""One of our strategic aims this year was to bring the UEFA Futsal Cup back to Odivelas. The Municipality is always looking to form partnerships with quality institutions like Sporting. It is a club that believes in sport, in the training of youngsters and in social solidarity. We hope that Sporting has a good run in the competition. Last year's competition went really well. Sporting, Odivelas and our volunteers (this year 70 will be available) did a great job. This event is good for sport but is also good for the country as a whole. Success for Sporting is success for the whole country and, of course, for Odivelas. Sporting really boosts the quality of life in Odivelas."
