MF futsal coaches expect best from participants

Monday, 03 October 2011

Kuala Lumpur: Futsal coach Edwin Roch expects the best from the young participants during the futsal training under the AFC Midnight Football social development programme.

“The 87 participants taking part today seem to be very excited and expecting a lot from from the programme,” Roch told the-afc.com recently.

“They know the success of the first edition and know the programme offers them a great opportunity not available elsewhere. But they have to work to make it work,” Roch said during a futsal training session, the first activity of the second edition of Midnight Football here last Thursday.

Midnight Football is a programme by the AFC to guide youngsters going in the wrong direction using football as a platform for positive change.

The first edition was launched in 2010 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and became a huge success. The second edition started in July and will run for eight months.

Roch, who brought with him six instructors to the futsal training session, explained the coaches’ roles.

“Today, we brought some futsal instructors who were ex-pro players. The coaches will be giving their best to the young participants and I expect them to be fully disciplined and compliant with the coaches’ instructions.

“Our instructors will share with them that the game is not just a game, but a lot more such as being disciplined, healthy, competitive, individually competent, a team player and many more.

“The coaches are like their parents or school principals. We are their parents or principals at the field. We want them to inculcate in themselves that just like their parents or principals, we want the best for them and we hope the kids will keep up with the programme’s futsal training discipline,” he added.

Futsal training, character building and social development form the main programme structure of the Midnight Football programme.
